Former Barcelona Athletic captain Casado has broken into Hansi Flick’s first-team squad this season, playing regularly and impressing, and the 21-year-old has credited Marquez with helping him become the man he is today.
‘If I’m where I am now, I have to give a lot of credit to Rafa Marquez. He gave me confidence all the time and made me a better person and a better player. Especially by showing me the importance of working off the pitch. I will be forever grateful to him,’ Casado said.
Marquez previously spoke about Cazado when he took over as coach of Barca Athletic: ‘Now as a coach, one of the things you prioritize the most is to reward and help the players develop. Cazado is a clear example of a professional player from head to toe! Excellent! (I am) happy with his performance!’
Casado’s tenacity and selflessness made him an ideal candidate for the base of Flick’s midfield and he featured in 11 out of 13 La Liga games so far in 2024/25.
